| Adelita | |
| Adelita se llama la ingrata, | Adelita is the name of the ingrate, |
| La que era dueña de todo mi querer, | The one who was the owner of all my love, |
| Nunca pienses que llegue a olvidarla, | Never think that I'll forget her, |
| Ni cambiarla por otra mujer. | Nor exchange her for another woman. |
|
|
|
| Si Adelita quisiera ser mi esposa, | If Adelita wanted to be my wife, |
| Si Adelita fuera mi mujer, | If she were my woman, |
| Le compraría un vestido de seda, | I'd buy her a silk dress, |
| Para llevarla a bailar al cuartel. | And take her dancing at the barracks. |
|
|
|
| Si Adelita se fuera con otro, | If Adelita went off with another, |
| La seguiría por tierra y por mar, | I'd follow her by land and by sea, |
| En aeroplanos y buques de guerra, | In airplanes and warships, |
| Y por tierra en un tren militar. | And by land in a military train. |
| About Adelita:
Adelita is a ballad from the Mexican Revolution (1910 - 1921). During the insurrection, many women accompanied the rebel troops into battle. These soldaderas made a major contribution to the victory of the insurgents. You can listed to a MIDI version at: http://ingeb.org/songs/adelita.mid Or try Silvestre Vargas' version at muhoo.com!
